Mateusz Smoczyński Quartet
Mateusz Smoczyński returns to his jazz roots with a brand-new quartet made up of some of the most outstanding musicians on the Polish jazz scene. For this project, he reunites with pianist Dominik Wania, bassist Sławomir Kurkiewicz, and drummer Michał Miśkiewicz — artists he previously collaborated with on the album Adam’s Apple. The quartet marks a return to modal jazz, a sound that shaped Smoczyński’s early musical identity.
An exceptionally versatile violinist and composer, Mateusz Smoczyński is known for his expressive voice both in Poland and internationally. He has performed with artists such as Branford Marsalis, Tomasz Stańko, and Leszek Możdżer. In recent years, he has focused on orchestral projects and his work with Atom String Quartet. This new ensemble is a fresh expression of his enduring love for jazz and improvisation.
The Mateusz Smoczyński Quartet brings a new perspective to the international jazz scene — passionate, technically brilliant, and emotionally engaging.
