Over the Clouds

The Over the Clouds project was born above the clouds — quite literally. Mateusz Smoczyński and Markus Stockhausen first had the chance to talk on board a plane they happened to share. It quickly turned out that their artistic visions chimed perfectly, and that conversation gave rise to this exceptional international quintet.
Poland, Germany, Estonia, Canada — five outstanding instrumentalists with impressive international careers meet in a space without divisions or borders. Mateusz Smoczyński, Markus Stockhausen, Kristjan Randalu, Chris Jennings and Bodek Janke become one where only pure art counts.

At the centre of the programme stands the multi-movement suite Over the Clouds by Smoczyński — a leader who loves being above the clouds both literally, as an enthusiast of flying, and figuratively, when his thoughts soar. Alongside the suite, the repertoire includes original compositions by the other members of the band. All the pieces balance naturally on the border of jazz and classical music, building a fascinating bridge between the two worlds.
