AtomSPHERE

Atom String Quartet’s third album – “Atomsphere” – was recorded at the concert hall of the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice. It has been three years since the previous recording “Places”, which was awarded the Fryderyk 2012 for “Best Album of the Year in Jazz Music”. During that time the quartet played many concerts and had the honour of cooperating with such worldwide renowned Artists as: Bobby McFerrin, Gil Goldstein or Vladyslav ‘Adzik’ Sendecki. All these music encounters and experiences influenced the artistic shape of the recorded material.

This album, as well as the former ones, contains original compositions of all quartet musicians. There is a lot of improvisation the band is famous for, but also single sounds are of great importance. The sources of inspiration are various music cultures of the world, and also achievements of contemporary music, especially minimal music, which has become another means of artistic expression used in the quartet’s newest compositions.

The composition of Dawid Lubowicz “Ballada o śmierci Janosika” (Ballad of the Death of Janosik) was inspired by a traditional folk song from the Podhale region, “Kie Janicka wiedli do Lewoczy”. The composition of Krzysztof Lenczowski “Nie ma spania!” (No Sleeping!) is dedicated to Magdalena Todynek-Jabłońska, her husband Maciej Jabłoński and their daughter Helenka.
